Transcranial Photobiomodulation (t-PBM) System

Increase cerebral flow and overall neuronal survival

Let's learn more about Transcranial PBM:

At Humanergetics, we have been researching the potential benefits of Transcranial Photobiomodulation (tPBM), a cutting-edge technology that uses near-infrared light to stimulate cells in the brain since 2021. Transcranial Photobiomodulation (tPBM) is a cutting-edge technology that has been shown to have a range of potential benefits for the brain and overall health. During a tPBM session, near-infrared light is applied to specific areas of the head using a specialized device. The light penetrates the skull and reaches the brain, where it stimulates the mitochondria in brain cells. This stimulation leads to increased energy production and improved cellular function.

Different areas of our brain:

The brain directs our body’s internal functions. It also integrates sensory impulses and information to form perceptions, thoughts, and memories. The brain gives us self-awareness and the ability to speak and move in the world.

The Seat of Consciousness: High Intellectual Functions Occur in the Cerebrum

Frontal Lobe

The frontal lobe is involved in problem-solving, planning, making judgments, abstract thinking and regulating how people act upon their emotions and impulses. The area towards the back of the frontal lobe, called the motor strip, helps to control movement. In the left hemisphere, the motor strip controls movement of the right side of the body; in the right hemisphere, it controls movement of the left side of the body.

Temporal Lobe

The temporal lobe is involved in receiving and processing auditory information like music and speech. It also helps to control language comprehension, visual perception, memory, and learning. The temporal lobe contains areas which control personality, emotions and sexual behaviour.

Parietal Lobe

The parietal lobe controls sensation and body position, as well as allowing us to understand time, recognise objects, and judge the position of objects around us.

Occipital Lobe

The occipital lobe receives and interprets visual information about colour, size, shape, and distance.

  • Ability to penetrate deep into different areas of the brain

  • Brain repair, improve cognitive ability and decrease mood fluctuations

  • Assist degenerative memory, blood flow & anti-inflammatory effects

Some benefits of t-PBM system:

  • Improved cognitive function: tPBM has been shown to improve cognitive function in individuals with mild cognitive impairment, as well as those with traumatic brain injury.

  • Reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety: tPBM has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety in individuals with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety.

  • Increased blood flow to the brain: tPBM therapy has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain, which can improve brain function and overall health.

  • Reduced inflammation in the brain: tPBM therapy has been shown to reduce inflammation in the brain, which can improve brain function and overall health.

  • Differences in wavelength and some studies:

tPBM technology uses red and near-infrared (NIR) light with wavelengths ranging from 600 to 1100 nm. These wavelengths are chosen because they have been shown to penetrate the skull and reach the brain tissue. The penetration depth of light depends on its wavelength, with longer wavelengths of NIR light being able to penetrate deeper into the brain tissue compared to shorter wavelengths of red light. Research has shown that the optimal wavelengths for tPBM therapy are between 800-900nm although here at Humanergetics, we have added to our studies longer wavelength as proposed by QuietMind Foundation.

Below are some sources that discuss the promising and convincing use of tPBM therapy for you:

Morries LD, Cassano P, Henderson TA - Treatments for traumatic brain injury with emphasis on transcranial near-infrared laser phototherapy

Blanco NJ, Maddox WT, Gonzalez-Lima F. - Improving executive function using transcranial infrared laser stimulation

Salehpour F, Rasta SH, Mohajerani MH. - Therapeutic effects of transcranial low-level laser therapy on Alzheimer's disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Cassano P, Cusin C, Mischoulon D, et al. - Near-infrared transcranial radiation for major depressive disorder: proof of concept study

While these studies suggest that tPBM therapy may be effective in improving cognitive function, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and treating conditions such as traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer's disease, it is important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of tPBM therapy and to determine the best treatment protocols for specific condition.

As always, it is important to consult with a professional healthcare provider before using any type of therapy, particularly if you have any underlying health conditions. With its innovative approach and potential benefits, we believe tPBM therapy is a promising option for those looking to enhance their brain function and overall health.

Cost: $70 for 30 mins session (or consider an option to rent / purchase)
